The Final Year Project Competition 2026 and Certificate Distribution Ceremony was held at COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus (Dhamtour) on 22 July 2026. The event was graced by the Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Capt. (R) Sarmad Saleem, as the Chief Guest.
Upon his arrival, the Chief Guest was received by the Campus Director, Prof. Dr. Zakir Hussain, Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman, and Campus Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Imran Ali Khan. The ceremony commenced in C-Block with the distribution of certificates among students and volunteers in recognition of their outstanding contributions and achievements.
Certificates were awarded to volunteers who played a key role in the cataloguing of books at the Maulana Muhammad Ishaq Public Library, Abbottabad, and in the development and implementation of district-level digital information systems. Students of the Computer Science Department were also acknowledged for developing the “Pehchaan App” for the district administration and a dedicated website for the District Police. The Pehchaan App has already attracted more than 2,000 users and is actively facilitating the delivery of various public services. Certificates were also awarded to 28 Students who won the ExcITe Cup in Capital University of Science & Technology, Islamabad, on 13 June 2026.
A special appreciation certificate was presented to Ms. Hira Khurshid in recognition of her exceptional achievement in securing Second Prize in the Computing Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–26 Global Finals held in Shenzhen, China.
Following the ceremony, the Chief Guest visited the Final Year Project Exhibition and Competition 2026, where approximately 30 innovative projects developed by final-year students of the Computer Science Department were on display. The students presented their projects and demonstrated practical solutions addressing challenges in areas such as digital governance, public services, artificial intelligence, software development, and emerging technologies. The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the students, appreciated their creativity and technical expertise, and encouraged them to continue contributing towards technological advancement and societal development. Judges from industry evaluated the FYP Projects.
TechFusion 2026 competition comprised of semester projects and OnSpot Programming competition, where around 60 students participated.
Addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Capt. (R) Sarmad Saleem, highly appreciated the contributions of COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, towards community development and public service initiatives. He commended the University’s efforts in leveraging technology for societal benefit and assured his full support to the Campus Director and the University in future endeavors aimed at regional development and innovation.
